This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Books have the power to transport young readers to new worlds, introduce them to diverse perspectives, and inspire a lifelong love of reading. My 3rd and 4th graders are eager readers who thrive when they have access to engaging, high-quality books. To expand our classroom library, I am requesting two incredible book series: Hooky and New Kid. These books will provide my students with captivating stories that reflect their interests, experiences, and the diversity of the world around them.
Adding these series to our library will make a significant impact on my students’ learning.
New Kid is an award-winning graphic novel that explores themes of identity, belonging, and navigating new environments—topics that resonate with many of my students. Hooky is a magical adventure filled with humor, friendship, and mystery, perfect for drawing in reluctant readers and keeping them excited about books. Graphic novels like these support literacy development by helping students improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills, all while making reading fun and accessible.
My goal with this project is to foster a love for independent reading and provide books that reflect my students’ interests and experiences. When students see themselves in stories and connect with characters, they become more engaged readers. These books will not only enhance our classroom library but also encourage deeper discussions, build confidence in reading, and create a community of enthusiastic readers. With your support, we can put books in their hands that will inspire, challenge, and empower them. Thank you for helping to make a difference in my students' reading journeys!
