Expanding Our Library: Spanish Graphic Novels for Engaged Learning
Help me give my students access to reading in the Target Language that they are studying so that they can grow in their proficiency skills while enjoying a graphic novel that speaks to them.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are enthusiastic learners eager to strengthen their Spanish skills through engaging and meaningful content. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many do not have access to Spanish-language books outside of the classroom. Providing them with graphic novels will encourage independent reading, improve comprehension, and build confidence in their language abilities. Our classroom needs a variety of Spanish-language graphic novels that are age-appropriate and culturally relevant. Graphic novels provide visual context, making it easier for students to understand new vocabulary and grammar structures while keeping them engaged in the story line. By incorporating these books into our curriculum, students will experience an exciting way to practice reading, discussion, and storytelling in Spanish.
