Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are those with some form of speech/language impairment. I see 3-year-olds through 3rd grade. These students come from varying backgrounds and one of my main goals is to increase the vocabulary they are exposed to. My students have communication difficulties that impact their educational experience, including learning to read and socialize with their peers. Making therapy effective yet fun and motivational is a key to seeing progress across varying goals. For those students still learning to use their mouth words or are learning to functionally communicate their wants and needs, items have been added to assist with them, such as a Quicktalker. Having alternative and augmentative communication methods that are portable for taking around the school environment is important. Gaining some extra materials to address the vast goals that my students have through motivating play-based therapy will be amazing. We greatly appreciate this opportunity!
