My Project
My students are curious and inquisitive. They love to engage with the material in my US History class. They also love to explore areas beyond our regular curriculum and dig deeper into subjects in history. To help encourage their inquisitiveness and to promote literacy I have created a classroom library and made independent reading a daily part of our class. Some students started slowly, while others hit the ground running with their daily reading. Thanks to a previous DonorsChoose grant and some key donations from myself and others, I was able to create a diverse library full of high-interest books on historical topics. Because of the diverse selection of books that I put together, all students were able to find books that engaged them. Now that we are almost through the Fall semester, all of my students are doing great with their independent reading.
Many of my students have already finished reading several books, so we are looking to expand our classroom library.
I conducted several class discussions with all of my students in order to elicit feedback on what types of books they would like added to the classroom library, as well as get suggestions for specific titles and authors.
This grant represents a list of books that my students have asked for, or that my colleagues have recommended to me as being high-interest, engaging, and appropriate for my students. Consider supporting our class to help promote literacy, and to help foster my students' curiosity.
