This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year I have the joy of teaching AP American Government and World Studies I to a group of students who have a thirst for knowledge. My students come from various backgrounds and academic levels and have taken on the challenge of achieving above average results in class.
They are always inquiring how events happened and why these events occurred.
My students are really passionate about debating events and characteristics we cover in class. I use the ideas from the book "Thinking Like a Historian" to engage students to inquire.
My Project
Just about 2 years ago, I started to change the way my students learn in the classroom. I wanted to move away from the traditional rows of desks. A previous project funded a futon and my students loved it. Students working in a small group would take a seat in on the futon and collaborate. I want to give my students more options on their seating while in my classroom.
Students can not stay seated for ninety minute intervals.
With this project I can give the students options to stand and still be comfortable or to sit on a comfy couch and still learn.
