it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our theatre program at our school is expanding. This is the second year of our theatre program and we are doing the musical Frozen KIDS. We have 43 students participating from 3rd and 4th grade! Each member of the ensemble is unique and I want to create costumes that reflect their role and personality.
As a newer theatre program, we want to teach the foundations of design to build the skills of our theatre makers.
We have been focusing on performances, but we are expanding into designing for the stage. Having a sewing machine at our school will allow us to design and make our own costumes for our school shows.
We are a dual language school with a lot of multilingual learners. Our performers deserve the chance to shine in original costumes. This will help each student feel special when they perform onstage. This will also give us sustainability as a program to create the materials we need for each show or performance. Our 3rd graders are currently learning about costume design. It would be amazing to get to a place where some of our students could help design, sew, and construct the costumes for their peers!
