My Project

In our classroom, access to books is essential. Many students rely on our classroom library as their primary source of reading material. It is important that these books not only reflect their cultures and identities, but are also accessible to them as readers and language learners.

By providing texts at a range of reading levels—including beginner, on-level, and advanced—students can build confidence and grow as readers.

Including bilingual books and culturally relevant literature will also support ESL students in developing both language skills and comprehension. Poetry is especially valuable because it allows students to engage with language in creative, manageable ways, regardless of their reading level.

Currently, our classroom library does not fully meet these needs. We need more books that are both diverse and appropriately leveled, as well as more poetry collections that support fluency and language development.
