Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine being in an overcrowded classroom that in a system that is test oriented? Art and music are as important as ever in the education system.
My students are underprivileged, most of which fall in the below poverty level.
They have to face too many of the issues related to poverty, including gang violence. Just this year there was a drive by shooting in front of our school. In all the years of teaching I have had, I have never had the additional challenge of such a large class size (37 students). Your help is needed more than ever.
My Project
My students are still children and need the chance to learn about recycling by making paper, learn about music by playing the recorder, and learn about the earth by making pottery. While engaging in these projects there will be academic connections to science, math, and writing. Making music will not only excite my students desire to be successful in school, but it will stimulate their brains using a new modality.
Our school does not have the resources to provide these materials.
The only way 37 students have the chance to experience paper making, music playing, and pottery is with donor help. Thank you for considering expanding our students' minds through environmental awareness, art, and music.
