This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My juniors and seniors are very vibrant and energetic. They love interacting and expressing themselves. To capitalize on these very common traits I see among my multicultural students, I would like to give them opportunities in the classroom to express themselves efficiently and artistically. Poetry give them opportunity to do just that. However, to spark creativity among them I need to use lots of visuals.

Having students express themselves through painting is a great way to motivate them to write poetry and release stress and complex thoughts.

The reality is that most of my students deal with many stressors such as having to work to help their families, or thinking about their next steps after graduation. I plan to have my students use the parchment paper, calligraphy pens, special scissors, water color paints and other supplies to illustrate their calming, reflective poetry.
