Remember when you tried to do something and got frustrated because it was really difficult? This is how a majority of my students feel every day in school. Everyday I work with students in grades K-5 with various disabilities in a resource setting to help them in reading, writing and math.
My students are all in grades K-5.
They all have some kind of disability that prevents them from learning in the ways every other student would. They are below grade level in reading, writing and/or math and require specialized instruction to meet their needs. They all come to me to work in a small group setting; I teach them strategies that could help them within their regular education classroom to try to get back on grade level. Although some students are well-off, most of my students are on free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
Research has shown that using stability balls rather than chairs in a classroom can help students stay focused and engaged for longer periods of time. A lot of students that come to me have ADHD/ADD and require a lot of extra attention to keep them focused. They are constantly moving around in their chairs, fidgeting and losing focus easily. With stability ball chairs, students will be able to move around while they are doing their work and be able to stay focused longer. This will ultimately help them to become closer to grade level and learn the skills they need to do so.
If I am provided enough stability balls, the attention and focus within my classroom will greatly increase.
My students will have chairs that they can move around in while also doing their work rather than doing one or the other. My students will learn more and get closer to where they should be in their academics.
