My students are creative, active, and have positive attitudes towards learning!
Our class is a mixture of regular education and gifted students, several who have ADHD and need to wiggle and move around in order to learn.
They enjoy learning and incorporating a variety learning modalities. Each child brings a diverse background to the group. We are a school in a district that is economically disadvantaged with a very diverse group of students who truly enjoy coming to school every day.
My Project
"When you exercise, your body and your brain go back into balance..... knowing that, the best time to give a standardized test, or any test, or to introduce new material, is right after a really good physical education class or recess."
~Steve Patton, Daily Dunklin Democrat, August 15, 2014~
We start every morning with some kind of movement; they love to dance and move around. My students realize that exercise stimulates brain cells and the need for 60 minutes of exercise daily is necessary for learning. They came up with the idea to incorporate movement with learning and suggested we find stools that allow both.
My students want the Hokki stools to sit down and work while they are at their computers and small group table. During this time, the students are very sedentary, and although the content is important, the potential for retention is not optimal. Having the Hokki stools in my classroom will allow the students to keep moving while learning, and, the more they move, the more they will absorb the content while also meeting the 60 minute requirement.
Having the Hokki stools in my classroom will help create a healthier learning environment, keeping my students moving and more engaged, and ultimately better equipping them for success. Since they came up with this idea the students are so excited to bring it to life.
