My students need 10 exercise balls in order to participate in lower-impact exercise, improve stability and strength, and to use as an adaptation to meet students'needs.
Ever get bored of the same old workout? Many of us do which is why I want to introduce my students to as many exercise modalities as possible! With exercise balls, I will be able to utilize these in Adaptive Physical Education, for cross-training to prevent injury, and to excite kids about exercise!
Our students are a community.
Growing up in a K-12 setting, they are considerate and caring for their school-mates. They have a strong sense of unity which is refreshing to see as an educator. They have generous hearts when able and would be ever grateful.
My Project
With the addition of these exercise balls to our fitness center, the students will be able to participate in a variety of new activities. The title of the class that would utilize these the most is "Fitness For Life." The goal is to introduce the students to as many methods of exercise as possible so they can find something to pursue lifelong. I find many of my students have blossomed in this setting as opposed to competitive games. There is a strong focus on lifelong fitness rather than skilled versus unskilled, or winning and losing. Exercise balls will be used for mat training, core work, and muscular endurance.
Exercise balls are also great for my students with disabilities. They assist with improvement of full body flexion and extension scores which are often tested for IEP's.
Finally, the exercise balls are great for cross-training and injury prevention. They can replace high-impact activities and save damage to joints such as the knees, ankles, and hips.
Donations to this request will help make our community a healthier one.
The students will be able to use these exercise balls during before and after school hours, to add variety in their workout routines, and to supplement their efforts to maintain a physically active life. Exercise ball training is a skill they can continue with far beyond graduation, but this is only an option if we can teach them the skills now.
