Educational extras are a luxury for our students. We are a neighborhood middle school with a significant immigrant population. Our classrooms are multi-national, multi-cultural and bi-lingual.
Our common goal is to understand mathematics.
The diversity within our classrooms sometimes makes this goal challenging to attain. The one constant is our students' curiosity and desire to learn.
Eliminating barriers to learning and enhancing the learning environment are priorities for us. We want to provide our students with the educational extras they can't provide for themselves. Ultimately, we want our students to realize they can succeed, not only in math, but also in life.
My Project
Time management skills are needed to be successful in school and life. We all have deadlines to meet, and learning how to manage our time is a critical skill we should possess. With no quick fix to developing time management skills, students can be taught how to do this in a systematic manner with the help of executive functioning clocks.
Middle school students often have a difficult time managing their time.
They can lack focus or lose focus; they can distract themselves and/or others; they can become so focused on their work that they fail to see the passage of time. These executive functioning analog clocks with their glass lenses, magnetic clock rings and tracking magnets will help students visualize the passage of time. Dry erase markers can be applied to the glass to show students "time zones" in which they should be preparing, working and finishing an activity. The tracking magnets are used in a similar fashion.
