This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year my class is composed of twelve 3rd graders and twelve 4th graders. The fourth graders spiraled back to me from last year's 3rd grade class. As a whole, they are responsible, respectful and eager to learn.
One hundred percent of the class are English Language Learners and come from low-income families.
Two of them are newcomers from countries in South America, both which started last year with zero English and improved by two grade levels in reading. Nothing can stop this class's enthusiasm to improve. They love to try on new projects and hands-on experiences. Every single student in my class enjoys their independent ability to complete assignments on their own, and look forward to student-led group work and choice.
My Project
My students need a variety of independent reading books to reach every interest. We have a lot of realistic fiction all of the books look pretty much the same, which can get boring after a while. I know kids are into graphic novels and other types of books. This set of TOON Graphics will help my students become interested in our classroom library again! I'm sure the kids will be eager to keep digging in those book bins to see what new books they can find. Expanding the library will help every student find something that they like to read.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
