Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a low socioeconomic school. The students receive free lunches. The majority of the parents work long hours to provide for their families. The majority of the students participate in the after school programs on campus, and therefore spend a large portion of the day on school grounds.
My fifth grade students are very eager learners and have tons of questions.
They enjoy just about every subject area and love having opportunities to explore new subject areas.
My Project
I am so excited to have my 5th grade students read The Land of Stories this year. Since the beginning of the year we have read a lot of fairy tales and have had the opportunity to defend some of the actions of characters in the stories or even put ourselves in their shoes in order to understand their motives for acting in a certain way.
Reading The Land of Stories will allow my students to further dive into the world of fairy tales and thus continue to evaluate character choices, story elements, and all of the pertinent 5th grade standards.
I hope that this year my students have the opportunity to continue to see the many ways in which classic fairy tales can mimic today's problems.
