Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just plain awesome! Regardless of their daily struggles they always prove to persevere! For many of my students, our classroom is their second home, even as uts moved into the virtual world. It is their safe space where they can escape the many pressures of adolescence and just be themselves.
Rather than the easy route of giving up, they choose to come together, to push themselves and to persevere, no matter how far they are behind academically.
They are dedicated students who continuously push themselves to be better.
100% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Once you get them excited about a topic or strategy, they are totally engaged in what we are doing. I want to give them that spark for all that they do, which will become a challenge as we transition to the remote setting. My goal is to set them up for success by providing them with the tools they need to access the curriculum effectively at home during the global pandemic.
My Project
I have created this project to purchase an amazing, fun filled, hands on curriculum for my US Government and Civics while they learn remotely.
The textbook we have is awesome and new but many of my students are having trouble grasping the heavy material due to the dense reading and distractions at home.
I have request $300 for the incredible TeachersPayTeachers site. This is a site where teachers all over the US share their creative, engaging learning materials and offer them at a low cost to other teachers, so everyone isn't recreating the wheel!
I have personally purchased many independent lessons from the curriculum already, and each time we used them my 8th graders were up, moving and creating as they learning about our Government and the importance of civic life in America.
