Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a true melting pot, full of many different nationalities and languages. It is the heart of our neighborhood! We are a Title I school and many of the students are English language learners.
Our students are full of life and they are excited about learning in new, magical ways.
The district and school are striving to educate the whole child by providing new opportunities beyond just academics. Students can participate in fine arts, academic, sports, and other clubs to extend their learning.
My Project
Students are excited to arrive to the STEAM Lab and I am excited to welcome their smiling faces! Our lab and STEAM class are new this year and we are growing our building and engineering supplies. Currently the students are building with blocks and STEM kits borrowed from the kindergarten classrooms.
I would like to provide different materials, like the Keva Planks and kinetic sand to stretch students' minds and give more opportunities for students to travel through the design thinking process while working on real world issues.
I have also requested activity sets for the students to explore: coding, brick building, earthquake engineering, house building, and architecture.
Students are empathizing with the end user, defining the problem, brainstorming and prototyping solutions, and persevering through failure.
