Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are culturally and linguistically diverse. They are in a Spanish immersion program where some are learning Spanish as a second language and some are learning English as a second language. They have different academic and social strengths and needs based on their home and school experiences. My students are eager to learn and they enjoy diving into great books. It is so rewarding to watch them find a good book, settle into a comfortable spot and read, read, read.
My Project
I want to expand my classroom library so that it includes a variety of high interest books to encourage my students to become lifelong readers. Currently, we have a limited selection of books and some students struggle to find books that hook their attention.
My second graders are really interested in reading books such as Dog Man, Captain Underpants, Elephant & Piggie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Owl Diaries and biographies.
We need books that cover a variety of genres and with diverse characters to reflect my students and their interests. We need to add life to our classroom library!
