Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a lovely group of First Graders. We are a Dual Language Class, which means that students are learning at least one language- we alternate between instruction in Spanish and English every other day. We are a Title I school, which means that many of our students come from low income families.

Many of my students do not have regular access to books that they want to read independently.

My Project

My amazing First Graders are starting to grow as readers, but to keep the momentum going, they need books that are exciting for them to read, in English and Spanish! Our classroom library is off to a great start, but there are some gaps that need to be filled in order to meet my students' diverse reading needs.

These books will provide opportunities for them to see themselves in books, practice reading in both of our classroom languages, and also read books about subjects that they are interested in, from volcanoes to ballet and beyond!
