I work at a school that is in a rural area. They need easier access to technology at school like the big cities schools have available to them. Not everyone has the opportunity to use Chromebooks. I want to give my students the opportunity to use Chromebooks for math and reading to improve their fifth grade skills. This will make them feel like our school is catching up to the larger schools with the technology they have access to. Doing something different than paper and pencil will help them when they move on to high school and college.
With these Chromebooks my students will be able to read class novels in an exciting way so they will enjoy reading. They will also be able to look up unfamiliar words so they will improve their comprehension and vocabulary skills. In math we will use Imagine Math which is based to Oklahoma Standards. This program helps them complete math skills at their level without using pencil and paper. This makes them enjoy math and raises their knowledge in computing math skills. They don't have to wait with other classmates until everyone has mastered the skills. They will be able to work at their own level.
This will help their self-esteem knowing they're ready for sixth grade and they have mastered the skills on their own.
