This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love reading! They come to school excited by the opportunity to read good books. These books will allow my students to read interesting, new, and diverse chapter books in small groups with other children who are reading at approximately the same level. Reading in groups with others at their level will allow them to both increase their reading skills, and develop a love of reading. Reading with students in smaller groups allows teachers to focus on the specific skills students are working on. I've seen student fluency increase dramatically when they read books together with others at their level.

Children enjoy reading much more when the books available reflect the richness and diversity of their backgrounds, and when the books are of high quality.

The best way to get better at reading is to read! I believe adding these books to our classroom will bring excitement and engagement to the students. These books will help in developing a classroom full of rich printed materials to increase my student's exposure to quality books.

I have chosen these books specifically with my students in mind, they reflect the diversity and interests of my group of smart, curious, and energetic students.
