This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My wonderful fourth graders love reading - especially graphic novels, superhero books, and joke books. They are caring, creative and hard-working. They are eager to fluently add and subtract. They love conducting science experiments. Their eyes light up when they are engaged in learning experiences.
Please, help make our classroom into the organized and supportive learning environment my students so desperately need.
For many of my students, the classroom is a place to escape into a nurturing, supportive environment. Almost all of them come from low income households. Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Once they are in the classroom we work as hard asa possible to create a nurturing space that will help them live up to their potential and be happy, healthy and successful.
My Project
My high level readers are starting the year off excited to read. But for some, keeping this momentum going can be a challenge. It is essential to keep the classroom library stocked with high interest books that will challenging them and keep them growing - without them even realizing it!
Graphic novels and scary books contain high level vocabulary and rich literary concepts in an accessible and enjoyable package.
The high quality illustrations in the Amulet and Bone series hook even less advanced readers into these action-packed tales. Graphic novels about history combine a fourth graders emerging interest in the world around them with the highly appealing format of a graphic novel. My students are equally in love with the hilarious Dog Man books and thrilling Goosebumps series. With these resources at their fingertips these young readers will become lifelong bookworms!
