My Students
Thomas Jefferson once said, "I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have." I want to give my students every opportunity to be the luckiest they can be. Creating goals on what they do and don't know with traits writing will help them to work harder on these focused skills.
Students are resilient in today's rigorous requirements of the common core.
They will work their hardest to achieve the best scores they can when it comes to their tests. Our school has been passionate about aiding students with the new testing standards. Although these eighth grade students did not come into junior high school with previous experience with the common core, they delved themselves into all the common core required of them. I want to give them more tools to help them facilitate success.
My Project
My students need trait-writing materials such as The Trait Crate Grade 8, Daily 6, and Traits of Writing Mini-book set as well as additional classroom supplies to help them succeed this school year. Copies and posters will facilitate success.
Students have struggled with the new common core requirements. Consistent writing techniques focused on the 6 traits will help them to succeed in the coming school year.
Focusing on the 6 traits of writing will allow students to pinpoint whether their ideas, organization, sentence fluency, word choice, conventions, or voice are their strongest writing skills, which will boost their confidence to strengthen the skills they must work upon. Students will be able to receive copies of the skills from each trait they will be working on and these will be kept in their individual folders. There will also be small group lessons where students will utilize model videos and reusable dry erase supplies. Each student's success will be visual and instantaneous on incentive charts posted in the classroom.
Instant assessment as well as charting goals will help students to become more adept at goal setting.
These individual skills will be helpful when they graduate junior high school at the end of the coming school year. In high school, they will be required to be more independent and preparing for those new expectations is important to continued academic success.
