Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The PreK students get excited about stories with visuals like Felt Board Stories accompanying the book. When I use my few, they want to hear the tale repeatedly and retell it with the felt board pieces. Hands-on learning with the board books in their laps helps them turn the pages and tell the story properly. Many of the students have memorized the books this year and recognize the words in our curriculum vocabulary and math and science lessons through repetition of reading our current board books.

This program is a Title 1 Gen Ed PreK program (all low-income and many single parents) where I am helping them get ready with skills in readiness for their Kindergarten classes in reading, math, and science.

I have many felt board stories without board books, so this project will help me teach my students to read using the hands-on materials they love.
