Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a low socio-economic school where most of my students predominantly speak Spanish. My students are at varying levels of academic ability. Parents do their best to help at home but most of them do not speak the language.
They are striving their hardest to learn as much as they can considering the obstacles they face.
They come to school eager to learn.
Our school is a Title I school with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
Hurricane Irma was devastating for our schools and community. Many of our families who are already from a low socioeconomic status lost everything!
My students have been trying to cope with the destruction Irma caused in their young lives, but it hasn't been easy!
We were forced to close down schools for 7 days and we are trying to catch up academically.
Recess has been a little dull for my students due to these losses!
The materials I have requested: playground balls, jump ropes, color cones, hoops, and beanbags, all have movement involved. They will help my students stay active during our recess time as well as during free time in the classroom. They will have a choice of the activity they want to do, but all the games will keep them moving, which is very important at this age.
Please help make this project come to life. Thank you.
