My students have a wide variety of social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities and spend all of there time in the special education classroom.
My students struggle with transitions throughout the school day and are working on utilizing coping strategies to self regulate and adjust to various emotional states.
Working in an inner city school, my students are from different economic backgrounds and all receive free breakfast and lunch. They would benefit greatly from flexible seating and more sensory play throughout the school day! They are an amazing group of kids and require a strong advocate to help them navigate their complex needs.
My Project
My students are such amazing people who have some unique social/emotional and learning needs. Sensory items like water beads and kinetic sand, and flexible seating options such as stools and a small group table make a real difference in their ability to focus and self regulate. A sensory table would be an awesome place to have students practice sharing with one another while also getting the sensory benefits. Traditional desks and chairs can be hard for students to sit in all day long. I would love to be able to offer my students different seating options throughout the school day. These seemingly little changes make such a huge difference for my kids
