Help me give my students the experience of hands-on manipulatives and learning through play with the light table that will provide the students with engaging materials that will supplement the creative curriculum.
Our classroom is a MD (Multiple Disabilities) classroom. We are a special education, self-contained classroom. Our students come from a diverse socioeconomic background. Our classroom contains students in kindergarten, first and second grade and all students have an IEP. These amazing students are full of curiosity and are eager to learn new things when they are given high expectations.
This year our program implemented a new Creative Curriculum that provides instruction that is developmentally appropriate for our exceptional students.
Our learners require active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn firsthand about the world we live in. Children explore the world around them by using all their senses (touching, tasting, listening, smelling, and looking). In using real materials children learn relationships between things. The activities, the environment, the selection of toys and materials, the daily schedule, and our interactions with our students and the students with their peers is instructed at the students’ present level of instruction and is designed to support the student’s growth at the rate and pace that meets each student’s individual needs in the areas of: social, emotional, cognitive and physical
My Project
The materials in this project will help engage our exceptional learners and increase their interest and focus. The light table will provide a hands-on, high- interest, display to teach math, literacy and social and emotional skills. The manipulatives will provide students with concrete materials to learn abstract concepts.
Since the materials will provide opportunities to instruct through all teaching modalities, each student will have their individual needs met.
The hands-on manipulatives will provide materials to teach our differentiated, small group lessons and meet each students academic, sensory or emotional needs based on their IEP goals. The engaging materials help capture the students interest and maintain the student's focus for instruction through play.
