This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a TK-2nd special education classroom for individuals with intellectual disabilities who participate in the moderate/severe alternative curriculum. My class is the sole special education program at our school site dedicated to students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities on the alternative curriculum. My students are extremely active, and their attention span lasts no longer than ten to fifteen minutes per activity. My students have a variety of needs including basic daily life-skills (e.g. diapering) to exposure to age appropriate standards based curriculum.

My Project

My students are young diverse learners who have various special needs of which a handful of awesome service providers help support their individual needs and abilities. Occupational Therapy is one of the many services they receive and now our therapist joins our now Distance learning Zoom classes to deliver services as best possible.

With having to stay at home since mid March and not being able to return to our classrooms, the majority of my students lack access to basic tools and materials they normally use at school.

I want to provide my students with a tool box full of hands-on learning materials to use from home.

This tool box will primarily be use to practice the skills they will be learning from their Occupational therapy every week. Parents are also present during our live lessons, so they are also learning skills to better support their students learning abilities. It is a great time to deliver our dedication and support to the children who are the future of our world!
