My Project
What started as one student’s persuasive writing assignment turned into something magical. Last year, a second grader wrote a heartfelt essay about why our school should allow Pokémon cards. In response, our principal embraced the idea—and student voice—and asked me to bring the Pokémon Club to life.
Since then, the club has become a popular after-school space where students come together to learn the basics of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), practice good sportsmanship, develop strategic thinking, and battle it out in friendly competition.
But more than that, it has become a place where kids feel heard, connected, and empowered.
We’re now hoping to take this club to the next level.
With your support, we’d love to expand the Pokémon Club with a wider variety of pre-made decks so that every student has a fair and exciting way to participate. We’d also like to introduce other Pokémon-themed resources—books, board games, collectibles, video games and creative activities—that go beyond the TCG, opening new avenues for learning and engagement. From art projects inspired by favorite characters to literacy connections with Pokémon readers and guidebooks, we want to offer something for every fan.
Our club seeks to expand beyond just cards—it’s about community, creativity, and cultivating passions in a positive, structured space. Your generosity will help us make the Pokémon Club more inclusive, exciting, and educational for all of our trainers-in-training. To further enrich the experience, we’re also requesting a Nintendo Switch, which will introduce students to the world of Pokémon through the video games—offering opportunities to develop reading skills, turn-based strategy, problem-solving, and digital citizenship in a fun and interactive way.
