Everything's Better in Color

Help me give my students colorful learning materials and fun engaging small group/center activities!

My Students

My kindergarten students are the cutest tiny humans you'll ever meet! The majority of them are ELL (English Language Learners) and 100% of my class receive free lunch. My students are creative thinkers, eager learners, and they are hungry for knowledge in all subject areas!

Despite the difficulties of COVID and Hurricane Ida, I am committed to providing a happy and healthy academic environment for my students.

My Project

Research shows that young minds require hands-on experiences in order to access their full learning potential. In math, we use manipulatives such as two-sided counters, counting bears, color tiles, and more to get students' little hands and minds working. However, for literacy, it can be a little more tricky to provide these hands-on activities in fun and engaging ways.

A classroom printer will provide a world of color and increased student interest/engagement for small groups and literacy centers.

Here are some things in our kindergarten classroom that would benefit from being printed in color:

1. Word Wall Words: these are words with matching pictures that are displayed to help students with their writing and vocabulary. The words can be changed out regularly depending on the time of year. For example, right now we have words such as "pumpkin pie," "Thanksgiving," and "leaves."

2. Beginning/Ending Sound Activities

3. Sight Word Practice

4. Classroom Management Strategies

5. Holiday Materials/Miscellaneous

Every morning, we do three 20-minute literacy rotations in our kindergarten classroom. While I work in a small group with 4-5 students, the rest of the class does literacy centers following the Daily 5 model. Some of these centers include Word Work and Work on Writing. Word Work mainly focuses on letter identification/sounds and sight word recognition. Work on Writing involves writing sentences with basic capitalization and punctuation using sight words and word wall words. With the use of a TeacherPayTeacher gift card, I will be able to introduce new hands-on, colorful literacy activities to increase student engagement and interest.

With a TeacherPayTeacher gift card and a color printer, the possibilities are endless when it comes to literacy games, hands-on reading activities, and small group practice.
