My students are imaginative and enthusiastic about their learning. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.
Many of my students don't have the resources needed to learn online.
Many depend on worksheet packets and whatever books they have at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are eager learners. The school has lent out laptops to some families, but they lack the resources to provide accessories that create a more comfortable learning environment for the students. Over the ear headphones with a mic allow students to hear and speak clearly while learning at home. 1st graders (6-7y/o) have a difficult time with fine motor skills, and providing a mouse to click (instead of a finger pad) makes using a laptop much easier for them.
My Project
COVID-19 has taken a toll on most of the planet, and has changed the way we provide education in an unprecedented manner. The items on this list will provide tools students need to make this transition easier for them. The headphones will allow students to hear and speak clearly with their devices borrowed from school during distance learning lessons, and the mouse is helpful for their fine motor skill development ( they have not mastered the touch click pad!). We provide lessons in every subject (daily) for our students, and have had some technical difficulty with using (very grown up!) devices they are not used to using. These items would help the students focus and feel accomplished with their learning.
