This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.
My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.
Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!
My Project
Two years ago our school's laminating machine stopped working. Since then, teachers, like myself, have not been able to laminate posters and other useful learning tools. Having a new laminating machine would help preserve worksheets and other learning tools that can then be reused between classes as well as reused each year.
As we dive into this new school year, many safety precautions from COVID-19 will need to take place each day.
Using laminated worksheets and other learning tools will be an easy surface to clean off between classes. Nevertheless, having a new laminator would be very useful for the upcoming school year.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
