My Students

Eighth thru twelfth graders all in the same classroom, some have Special Education needs, some are struggling learners, some are accelerated learners or may be behind on credits for graduation. I teach them all.

I work in a juvenile correction center, my kids are not bad they've just made some mistakes.

The students at my school are serving a mandatory six month sentence. They are young, just kids really some as young as fifteen. A few are repeat offenders, but most of them are new to the juvenile justice system. I try to offer them a stable school environment while they are with me, because they deserve that much.

My Project

Being that my students are part of the juvenile justice system they have no accesses to the comforts of home let alone the things a "normal school" would have. The thing they BEG me for everyday is the chance to listen to music. What a normal thing we take for granted everyday, music. Having music players would make a HUGE difference for my students. The MP3 players will be used for a self regulation strategy when students are upset or anxious they will also be used to help students focus and concentrate when doing independent work. They would be kept in the classrooms and we be able to be used with multiple groups of students.
