I work in a Montessori inner-city classroom. In this environment, we spend the first three years of education together learning and growing. We become a true family within our school and neighborhood community. I strive to give the students an understanding of our global community and ways to best become a global citizen. We learn through hands-on activities as well as a curiosity to understand things that are different from our experiences. We work hard to make sure we are successful as well as helping everyone else in our amazing community.
My Project
A Montessori classroom has many wonderful attributes, however the only way to have a true Montessori classroom is with organization. This is one of my biggest struggles as I leave my traditional classroom and totally embrace this new adventure. Instead of desks, the kiddos are asked to learn in an environment that best suits them. Usually this means sitting on the floor. Montessori students use their individual rugs to help organize their work space. Where we put these carpets has been an organizational nightmare for all of us. This bench will help alleaveiate this problem and give the students another place to work or read.
