Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My scholars are curious and optimistic third graders who are learning to enjoy reading. I teach at a K-4 elementary school in an impoverished urban area. My class library is an important resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely solely on my class library for access to high-quality books. Each day scholars have 40 minutes to read books on their specific reading level and they are anxiously waiting for the opportunity to increase their reading abilities this year!

My Project

My scholars are trying everyday to reach their reading goals. Outside of our daily lessons, scholars use daily reading quizzes to increase their comprehension and fluency. Without access to quality books, my scholars are no step closer to meeting their goals. I am attempting to start a class library to allow my scholars access to quality books.

Once a scholar is done reading a book, they will be able to take an online quiz that will test their comprehension on the book.

These quizzes are similar to tests and quizzes scholars take during the school year, so being able to take quizzes after reading the books gives the scholars extra chances to strengthen their test taking skills.
