My Project

Science of Reading refers to research that cognitive scientists have conducted in order to learn how the brain learns to read. This research has effectively shown that educators need to shift the balance in everyday literacy instruction.

The shift in literacy instruction is necessary to grow lifelong readers who can decode the English language, and I need to shift the materials I use to create strong, lifelong readers.

In order to more effectively grow my readers abilities, students need materials that are better aligned to the Science of Reading, such as decodable books and aligned activities. I am currently shifting my practices to the science of reading to develop strong readers and writers.
