Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Each year, only a few of my students can bring in school supplies for themselves. My students need folders, crayons, pencils, pens, erasers, colored pencils, and tissues to be able to complete a variety of ELA activities.

I teach 55 amazing third and fourth-grade students in ELA and social studies at a Title I urban school.

This diverse group of students comes from difficult backgrounds as well as different countries. The majority of my students cannot afford basic classroom supplies such as pens, pencils, folders, erasers, or crayons.

By providing them with these basic school supplies, I hope to close the achievement gap as I make learning fun and inspire my students. These supplies will make an impact on my students' learning by giving them the tools necessary to complete their daily assignments without worrying about if they have the supplies they need to be successful. There is not one day that goes by in which a student doesn't tell me, "Ms., I would, but I don't have a pencil."

Having the means to provide these materials for my students will not only elevate the anxiety of not being prepared but will also create a sense of confidence in them to tackle their work!
