Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When my students walk into my music class, they are excited to learn about music! They want to play instruments and learn songs because music is something that everyone can enjoy! They have a great time in class because they have learned that to create a good music class, they need to be and do the following things. "I am Responsible! I am Respectful! I will Participate!" Each one of my 520 students (Pre-K-6th grade) knows that they are capable of learning and performing music!

I teach at a Title I school in Oklahoma City where 92% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Out of the whole school, 77% of my students come from a Hispanic home where the parents only speak Spanish. Several of my students receive backpack food on the weekends as well.

My Project

As I start to think about next year, I realize that my students need some school supplies to start off the next school year right! First of all, my students need black expo markers so that we can continue to write rhythms in music class, practice drawing all the notes, and also to write their own music (music letters on ledger lines)!

Also, every class needs tissues and tape!!

Tissues are hard to come by, and I average 3 tissues per class everyday of the school year! Tape is also needed to hang up posters and talent show audition papers! Lastly, in order to help get organized, I would love to have a label maker and post it notes to help me stay on track!
