Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As the media specialist, I want to reach as many students as possible to encourage a love of reading. Each year, Sunshine State Young Reader Award books are selected by educators for their wide appeal, literary value, and multicultural representation.
Our students work hard and many have to overcome economic and second language challenges.
They love to read and visit the media center! The Sunshine State books create a lot of excitement and help motivate students to develop independent reading skills. As they read the books, they earn recognition, prizes, and best of all, free books!
In the spring, students get a chance to vote for their favorite along with students all over the state. The Sunshine State books inspire our students to connect with one another as a community of readers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
