My students need a iPad to help them access more in depth learning in our classroom. There are many students that access by doing and an iPad is an excellent tool
Seven years of experience has taught me the value of hands-on learning. Many students have difficulty focusing or extending learning from one area to another. iPads are excellent tools to help students reach learning concepts that they are struggling with.
My students are passionate individuals that are striving to be the best that they can be by "never giving up" (class motto).
Our school is a "big", "little" school nestled close to the beautiful Cascades. Our school houses about 120 students in grades K-5. Our second grade class is the largest this year. Although many of my students come from single parent homes and low income situations, we are hoping to reach for the stars this year.
I am blessed with a variety of students ranging from students already reading at a third grade level to students still struggling with their letter sounds and names. It is often difficult to find the time in a day to address the individual learning needs of every child, but that is what is needed to allow every child to reach their personal best.
Technology is a major tool in today's workforce and our children are going to be left behind if they are not given training and access on the tools of the 21st century.
My Project
I use iPads to differentiate the learning that every level needs to reach their personal best. I have a student that can read work on letter sounds and names or enjoy a story by slipping on a pair of headphones and listening to the same story that his/her peers are reading. Then they are able to join into the classroom discussion revolving around the story at a later time.
Students reading at a higher level are able to extend their learning by creating i-movies, digital book reports, and research projects; later shared with peers.
I have placed their spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and high frequency skills in apps essentially giving them one-to-one time with the teacher remotely so that I, the teacher, can be free to work with other students at the same time.
Second graders need a firm math fact foundation and I have differentiated each child's needs so they can practice what they need in a very concentrated manner.
Essentially, iPads individualize every student's needs.
Our project will make a difference because students will have access to 21st century tools that will allow them to access learning from a variety of angles.
Students generally are more engaged when working independently on an iPad that allows them to work at their own pace and at their precise level.
Many students do not have access to electronics within the home and school may be their only chance to learn the tools of the world they will soon be contributing to.
