Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I work with attend a Title One middle school. Each student has a unique personality and enjoy learning. I work with a large population of Hispanic students who are learning English and students with disabilities. All the students rise to any challenge given to them even if they lack the supplies to do so.
The students I work with are sponges who soak up all the knowledge given to them.
They are consistently questioning why and how. The English Language Learning students always speak to me in English because they want to improve and assimilate with their peers.
My Project
Students will be able to use the headphones to help them focus as they learn on their own via computer and videos I create. Students are allowed to work together and answer the questions from the videos; helping students learn at their own pace. Providing students with pens that have erasers gives them the opportunity to write notes in different colors to help them identify specific concepts in math. Students prefer to write in pens because it is easier for them. Ink flows nicely when writing notes, while pencils can feel like scratching a board. During our school year, I also send out memos and other resources to the parents via newsletters and take home notes. This provides the opportunity for parents to become involved even if they struggle to understand what the student is learning because I send the letters in their language with different ways for them to help their child. The batteries are used in our clocks in the classroom for students to keep an eye for the time they have left. I like to maximize the amount of time I have with my students, so it is essential for them to understand how time factors into every part of the lesson. From walking in to the classroom to packing up at the end of the experience. I like to have air fresheners in the school to help the room feel welcoming.
