This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our scholars receive free breakfast and free lunch. For many of our scholars, this is the only place they receive a healthy meal. Many of our scholars come from single-family households, without the means to provide their students with the necessary school supplies for the year. Many of our scholars have experienced indescribable hardships and come to school as a safe haven for their personal struggles. Often, some scholars have to walk through areas of violence to and from school.
Despite these hardships, we believe that our scholars deserve the best educational experience and that we need to work together with families, schools and the community, to provide our scholars with the skills necessary to have the most opportunities to thrive.
My Project
We often have many hardships we need to overcome, finding school supplies or having the resources to buy them, can be challenging. There is nothing better than to be able to just give students what they need.
We want students to have the materials they need to be successful.
There is a great relief for our scholars when they can walk into a classroom and just know things like pencils will be readily available to them. Surprisingly it is also very important to have pencil sharpeners that work and work quickly so scholars can get back to their work.
With the winter season fast approaching, having Kleenex in the classroom will keep more students in the room versus the Nurse's office. These supplies will allow our scholars to have resources and materials to be able to annotate. If they don't have writing supplies they won't be able to practice their skills and produce works of writing. Our scholars love using the felt tip pens as they color code their annotations and comments within the text. It allows them to make edits to pieces of writing as well.
The Mr. Sketch markers are wonderful for our special needs scholars in our Multiple Handicapped room. They love to use the wide tips and easy to hold shape. The scents making creating and exploring design fun.
