Help me give my students two wobble stools, a lightweight table for an additional work space for our classroom, as well as a variety of Social Studies resources.
My students are fun, energetic lovers of learning. Their curiosity is avid, admirable, and inspiring. They attend a suburban public school, grades 1 through 5, in the western part of the state. All students receive free breakfast and lunch and many come from families who are considered at the poverty level.
The students in my classroom are from many different countries; this diversity is embraced and honored.
Many of my students speak more than one language. Others have been identified as learners with special academic, communication, social, and emotional needs. These dynamic students bring their skills and stories to my classroom each day. They spend their time on academic tasks, thoughtfully busy thinking, reasoning, collaborating, listening, talking, and problem-solving.
Students continue learning to embrace the ideas of accepting and appreciating others and to be actively involved in their education. Students are developing mindful awareness in order to build confidence, compassion, empathy, and inner strength. Time is spent helping students discover their strengths and needs as learners, developing self-advocacy skills.
Every day my students amaze me with what they have to say and share with each other. They are capable, competent learners.
My Project
Students in my classroom will use a variety of Social Studies resources while learning about regions of the United States and sharing their work with others. Two additional wobble chairs will allow for an increase in flexible seating, as will the folding table. A tabletop easel will allow for small group instruction to be seen by all group members, and additional building blocks and interactive math resources will allow students to have fun while learning. These activities are also a part of our Responsive Classroom community-building social-emotional skills, metacognitive skills, increasing awareness and mindfulness.
Creating additional flexible seating options will provide students with an even more diverse space to learn and grow.
Students often work in small groups for differentiated instruction, and additional seating options will allow students continued access to this way of collaborating and learning from one another. New Social Studies resources will allow for more interactive learning, and additional interactive math experiences will keep the love of learning alive!
