Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Did you ever want to read a diary belonging to someone else? Memoirs provide a way for you to do just that. A memoir is a unique, personal way to describe a situation as the author interprets it.
Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of just over 1000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers.
My Project
Students need to read memoirs and autobiographies. The books selected for this project are self written which will encourage students to write for themselves. Two titles are written in both Spanish and English. These bilingual titles serve both as a resource for the English speaking students learning Spanish and the native Spanish speaking students learning English. Each student can look to these books as an example of how to write and get the most out of their own writing.
Dear Diary, when no one else understands, you do.
When I feel alone, you're there. When I can't tell anyone, I tell you. Students need to read what people write about their own thoughts, feelings and actions. Please help us bring the diary out from under lock and key by funding our project.
