My Students

My students consist of 20 children ages 3-5, with the majority being from low-income families. My students are at the age where learning is fun, and I feel as if it is my job to keep it that way and introduce as many FUN concepts as I can. However, not having a variety of age-appropriate materials that are engaging for this age group can make this goal difficult. My students are very eager to learn concepts, but because of their age tend to be very difficult to keep engaged.

My Project

The Circle time Center will focus on concepts such as literacy, counting, recognizing numbers, rhyming, months of the year, and days of the week, weather vocabulary, all in one chart. As of now, I am using charts that I point to and ask children to identify. This Circle time center would allow children to learn the concepts by being able to participate themselves.

Children need to learn the how and why of learning, not just memorization.

The dry erase roll would allow the students and me to write or draw at circle time on the wall, for example, If students identify the letter B, they could be encouraged to help me make a list and write or they could draw a ball or bat. Students would also be encouraged to use the dry erase to sign in and write their name. The dry erase roll is also very convenient due to my classroom not having a dry erase board.

This board would also allow my students with special needs to be able to participate by pointing or making choices. Whereas before if they were not able to speak or point to the answer on the chart, participation was much harder and unlikely. This chart I feel will engage all students with different needs.
