This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a dual language kindergarten English and Spanish 50/50 in a school that is located in one of the most densely populated poverty-stricken areas of Los Angeles. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Almost all my students are English Learners and receive free meals. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households with very little resources.

My students are creative, energetic and smart.

Despite the many obstacles they face, their love of learning never diminishes. I have very little control over what happens outside my classroom but inside I can provide a learning environment where they can grow to their full potential.

My Project

Art is amazing! It lets you create, express, imagine, think, and learn! Every child should have art in their education. But due to recent budget cuts, visual arts materials are no longer a priority on our school budget.

We are in desperate need of visual art materials.

We need crayons and color pencils so that my students can draw and color. So that they can experiment with the art element of lines. The tempera paint will help my students learn about color mixing: primary and secondary colors. The watercolors and paper can aid in my students painting like the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Creating their own beautiful watercolor flowers that they can display and share.

All the art materials that I am requesting will help my students really experience the wonder of art!!
