Our garden of kindergarten students has out grown the rug! We are a kindergarten in an urban charter school. We serve a high-need community in a downtown neighborhood.
Our class size has grown this year and now we don't all fit on the rug. Some children sit on the tile floor and others in chairs around us. In kindergarten we spend a lot of our day on the rug sharing stories, discovering sounds, and building classroom community. Everyone wants to be included on the rug but there just isn't enough room for all of us.
What we need the most is a new rug where everyone can sit together. Providing a space where all the students can sit together with enough room for each of them is very important. No one wants to sit on the cold floor or away from the group in a chair. Our classroom community believes in including everyone and working together. A new rug will help us live this belief.
