My Students

Energetic, empathetic, helpful, curious - these are some of the many adjectives I use to describe my incredible first grade super stars! I have 22 happy, hard working kiddos who LOVE their school and LOVE to learn.

My first graders come in every day with big smiles and big hugs!

We are from a mid-sized school in a small town full of cow pastures and crop fields. About one third of our students are from low-income households. Many of our students are from migrant farmer families and are learning English as a second language. We have two amazing students in our classroom who are completely bilingual in Spanish and English!

We spend a lot of time together on the floor as a big, happy learning group. We would really love to have a soft, colorful rug to sit on while we learn!

My Project

My wonderful group of first graders and I are trying to raise money to buy a classroom carpet! As first graders, we spend a lot of time learning and growing on our floor.

Our learning would be much more comfortable, organized, and fun on a new classroom carpet!

On top of being more cozy and more fun than sitting on the floor, the carpet we are raising money for has special rectangular spots for each and every student. The carpet will be a useful tool to help us with personal space as we learn and grow together. The carpet is also organized so that we can easily have partner time! In first grade, we practice speaking in full sentences and listening intently to partners. The seating pattern on this carpet will ensure that everyone can be sitting right next to a buddy to practice with. The pattern on the carpet will also allow me to choose where my students sit so that they can have optimal success.
