Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed while reading a hard essay or a long book? Do you ever remember feeling bored reading something way too easy? My students are all on different reading levels and they face a challenge trying to dive into reading independently.
My students are second graders on the west side of the valley.
Most of my students are learning English as a second language and are trying to figure out their new life in the United States. I also have a lot of students that are studying so hard that they are far above level. They are amazing students that come to school everyday ready to learn and are excited. Most of my students are living in poor conditions and sad family lives. But they are making so much progress.
My Project
I am asking for a leveled classroom library. I have such wide variety of student ability in my classroom that it gets tricky to find books to fit each child's need. This library will be helping these children feel comfortable reading stories that are fit for them. They won't feel overwhelmed or bored. They will also be able to track what level they started on and see the progress they are making throughout the year.
It is so important for children to be able to sit down, pick a book, and know they will be able to read and enjoy the story.
It is what makes children excited to read and this is how they become amazing readers. This is what I want for my students. I want them to feel that they can do it and achieve greatness. Having books that are ready for them and are fun will make all the difference.
