This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Being back in the school building this school year and seeing students in person has truly been amazing! I am so excited that my students have access to interesting and exciting books, but I would like to add onto our classroom library. So far, graphic novels have been the books my students consistently reach for and are the most excited to read. Because comics are visual, even if the text is difficult, the pictures give the reader support in comprehending the story. My goal is to have more graphic novels to excite my reluctant reader and those students struggling with reading. Having books that belong in a series helps to keep readers engaged for a longer period of time and continue to be excited to read.

When children read, they are building on skills that will help them in their lifetime.

My students come from home where there is often a lack of book. Being able to provide my class with a diverse library will help me continue to grow their love for reading. By having a bigger selection of books in my classroom library, I am able to help them continue to grow as well as enjoy reading. This also allows me to have books readily available at all times and have genuine recommendations for them whenever they finish a favorite series. Many of my students have been begging for the books in my project, they are the newest book in their favorite series that recently got published. These books are not available to them at in our school library.
